Exit Interview

1. Comment about your work ethic in this course.
My work ethic has been simply working on the project currently out and moving onto the next regardless of the completion/lack there of with said project. It's too much work to keep up with absolutely everything given and it's easier and less stressful to just take the hit on some things.

2. Which assignments did you enjoy and why?
I enjoyed the cut to the beat projects, and I really liked the Minecraft building projects. I've hated them in the past because I never had friends in my class and had to do it all by myself, so it was much better with friends.

3. Which assignments did you struggle with and why?
A lot of them actually. I didn't particularly struggle with Thunkable, it was more with struggling to find motivation to do it. For me, as interesting as it was, it was far too long, and I found myself very very very long and repetitive, and also the guy's voice totally freaked me out XD. Other projects I struggled with were some of the Raft assignments, involving making almost 7 videos in two days, especially when half of the videos were based on events that happen randomly. assignment I struggled with most was definitely the freakin' Sketchup. I hated having an entirely new 3D surface to build every single day. There was no way I'd ever get half of those done.

Game Journalism - Play 3

If I were to start over...

1. The things I would do:
  1.   The first thing I would do would probably be collect until I have enough resources to actually do something(as you really have no other choice).
  2.   I definitely wouldn't wait as long as I did my first try to build anything, I almost starved and had to sprint to build stuff and hope. So my next step would be to build both a water purifier and a grill.
  3.   I would definitely try and gather food to cook, and if I can make a cup and fishing rod so I'm able to actually collect and have a somewhat steady source of food, at least for a while.
  4.   I wouldn't be as scared to go in the water. There are so many things that are crazily essential to building most of the useful things.
  5.   My next step would to be to build a sail. I waited so long to build one my first time. I just built it last week so, sail's are definitely useful, in getting to islands, or just quickly gathering resources.
  6.   COLLECTOR NETS. Those things are life savers. They speed up your collecting process and leave you more time to build, eat, treats your needs, or advance in the research table, which by the way is absolutely essential.
  7.   Which leads me to my next step. Put one of everything I find into the research table. The more recipes you have the better. so what if you can't make it right then, you can at any point in the future.
  8.   Either crafting a scarecrow or placing the crop pots under shelter seem to do the trick at keeping the seagulls away.
  9.   Constantly trying to upgrade, the faster you have a better water purifier or grill, the better water/food you can craft and the better off you are.
  10.   Not be as scared to waste resources. There's an infinite supply  of resources that as long as I have food and water I'm fine. I was so scared to run out that I didn't do or build as much as I could've.

2. The best tool for survival is honestly any version of the hook. The game is basically unplayable without it.

3. My raft:

I think the best feature thus far is the fact I'm able to use the higher layers to access higher levels of islands. That's really helpful :)

Game Journalism - Day 2 - Play

I continued on from my first save(the one I haven't died in, fyi), and I was a little behind in plastic and a bit hungry and thirsty. Okay a lot hungry and thirsty. So I decided I would gather lots of plastic and then after make another fishing rod and fish. I quickly LEARNED(part 2) after making a fishing rod, that the most effective way to fish was while waiting for the "LMB" to appear on the screen(no matter where you're looking) you can gather stuff with the "E" key. I thought that was like, some sort of human evolution that made things so much easier. The only things I stopped fishing for were barrels, or when my water/beets were ready. Finally I had at least a stack or two(I can't vividly remember) of plastic, so I set out to make another storage box because my inventory was now full of at least 5 stacks of palm leaves and two of planks, and also all the fish I was grabbing. I now have one box for food and one for materials, but the boxes are terribly small. A strategy I'm going to focus on collect lots of wood, because I ran out while building walls.

Game Journalism - Play 3

1. I built a Scarecrow for the first time today.

2. The scarecrow will keep the dumb seagull off my crops. That's my survival you thief.

3. Tomorrow I'm just hoping to come across an island so I can gather more sand and clay. I need to make a Smelter in order to make a hinge that I need for a tree pot.

4. I've built my raft like this because one, it looks nice :D and two, the tower is for getting onto islands while the little house at the bottom contains my research table, both my grills, and four plastic containers. The front has four collectors placed as you see in the second photo(They've been moved but their holes are still there), as that is the front of my lil' raft.

Game Journalism Day 1 - Basics

Raft

Raft is a survival game where the player has to collect debris from the magical place they spawn from in order to build things, eat, drink, and to survive. As far as I know there is no "Final goal" or a way to complete the game.
The ways you can collect debris are simple:
  • With the E key on your keyboard.
  • With the left mouse button when using the hook.

Debris:
The Palm Leaf is really useful for crafting rope, which is for some reason needed for a lot of things.

Planks are super useful for many different seriously important things. Like a hook, or a platform for your raft. They're also good for making furniture or any sort of raft-related building objects.

Plastic is also very useful for building platforms or a hook. It can also be used for other tools like the paddle, and is good for a container of items and some other things.

Scrap can be used for.... I think my friend said torches... I haven't gotten far enough to be able to research any of those things, so I don't think scrap is very useful without a research table.

Stone is.... Useful for something I'm sure. I haven't come across anything it was needed for yet.

Blueprints allow you to make advanced devices or mechanics. You can find them in barrels, and with a research table, you can learn how to craft tougher things.

Shark Attack:
This is what a normal shark attack looks like...

And this is what a stubborn one looks like... The shark I guess didn't care that there was literally a board on the side it wanted to attack that platform on, so it attacked it anyways, I guess.

My Raft:
And this is what my raft looked like when I signed off. I'm assuming I needed a photo of how the raft looks when you start, but I forgot, so basically when you just start out there's only four platforms that the shark can destroy at anytime whether you're standing on it or not(learned that the hard way), and a hook for grabbing debris. If anything, this image is a look at what you can achieve in an hour and a bit. This was done in one class so, given I did actually die once this time.
